About the job

Assemble steel ship sections and hull blocks in a shipyard, working closely with welders and following ship drawings.

What you'll do

  • Read ship drawings and mark out plates, frames and stiffeners
  • Position and fit plates, profiles and brackets to build hull sections
  • Tack weld parts in place and check alignment and tolerances
  • Cut and adjust steel with gas or plasma cutting
  • Work safely with overhead cranes and lifting equipment

What you need

  • At least 2 years of shipyard or heavy steel fitting experience
  • Able to read ship or structural drawings
  • Can tack weld (MAG or stick) and use gas cutting
  • Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces
  • Able to pass a practical trade test
  • Passport valid for at least 2 years
  • Basic English for safety instructions
